Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Manama and grew up in an ethnically diverse, multiracial family. The father of Jacqueline's Elroy Fernandez hails originally from Sri Lanka (Sinhalese - Catholic)and her mother Kim is Malaysian. She has two younger brothers and one older sister. In the 1980s, her parents emigrated to Bahrain because of civil war on Sri Lanka. This is why she was born and raised in Bahrain. In Australia, she studied Media and Communications at University of Sydney following her graduation from Bahrain. Having a passion for the world of languages and cultures, she joined the Berlitz school of languages, where she learned to speak Spanish and improve her French and Arabic. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 competed for Miss Universe 2006 as well as Miss Universe 2006 when she won the title in 2006.
